2. Entry Guidelines

Categories: Participants may submit one photo per category (so max 5 (five) photos in total):

  • Machines & Farm Equipment (Photos of agricultural tools or vehicles in use or on display) (e.g. A tractor spraying a crop or a planter at work)
  • Farm Landscapes (Scenic views of farms with row or permanent crops — no animals) (e.g. A panoramic shot of maize fields at sunrise or an orchard in bloom)
  • Faces of Farming (People) (Portraits or candid shots of people working in agriculture) (e.g. A farmworker harvesting crops or a smiling grower next to a combine)
  • Pests & Diseases (Photos showing crop damage or the pests/diseases causing it) (e.g. A close-up of fall armyworm on maize or rust on wheat leaves)
  • Villa Product(s) in Action (Images showing any Villa product being used on the farm) (e.g. A Villa adjuvant being mixed into a spray tank or applied in the field)

Platform Selection: Participants may choose to post their entry on one of the following platforms: Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, or TikTok. Posting on multiple platforms is optional and not a requirement.

Submission Process:

  1. Create a Separate Post for Each Entry: For each photo you wish to submit, create an individual post on your chosen platform(s).
  1. Post Caption Requirements: In the caption of your post, include the following details:
    • Photo Title: A title for your photo.
    • Category Name: Specify the category you’re entering (e.g., Machines & Farm Equipment, Farm Landscapes, Faces of Farming, Pests & Diseases, Villa Product in Action).
    • Short Description: Share a brief insight or story about your photo (optional)
    • Location: Where the photo was taken (optional).
    • Tag Villa’s Official Account: Ensure you tag Villa’s official account on the platform.
    • Facebook: @Villa Crop Protection
    • Instagram: @villa_crop
    • TikTok: @villa_crop
    • LinkedIn: @Villa Crop Protection
    • Hashtag: Use the hashtag #VillaCropCaptureChallenge
  1. Finalise Entry: After posting, complete your entry by filling out the submission form on the competition landing page, which is on Villa’s website. Note: You can come back to this form to edit your submission at any time. The link to do so will be in the confirmation email after you have submitted.

Ensure that the information provided matches the details in your social media post.

You are then encouraged to follow Villa’s official account on the platform where you posted your entry, to make sure you don’t miss any important updates. Note: this is not a requirement for entry!

Multiple Entries:

You may enter up to 5 (five) photos total (1 (one) per category). Each photo must be posted separately. If you post multiple photos at once (e.g., three photos/posts on Facebook), you should complete a single submission form, adding each photo’s details using the “Add Another Photo” option. Should you post additional photos later (e.g., two more next week), please go back to that same form and add your new entries.  The link to do so will be included in the email you’ll receive when you submit this form.

Repeat Submissions & Multi-Category Entries

Winning images are ineligible for re-entry in any subsequent round. Once a photo has won any prize, it may not be submitted again.

You may enter the same image in multiple categories within the same round, provided it genuinely meets each category’s requirements (e.g., a landscape with a tractor and a person may fit both “Farm Landscapes” and “Faces of Farming”).

However, a single image can only win once. If you enter the same photo in multiple categories, you will only be eligible to win in the category where it receives the highest placement.

Photo Date: Photographs taken at any time are eligible, provided they are the original work of the entrant.

Editing: Basic editing such as cropping, brightness, and contrast adjustments are permitted. However, extensive alterations or manipulations that distort the original content are not allowed (for example, with AI).

Original Work: All submissions must be original photographs taken by the entrant. AI-generated images are not permitted. Villa reserves the right to request original image files for verification purposes. Entries found to be AI-generated will be disqualified.

Confirmation: Upon submitting the form, you should receive a confirmation email. If you do not receive this email within 1 day, please contact Larissa at [email protected]. Both the social media post(s) and the completed submission form are required for a valid entry.

Communication: Villa may contact participants via WhatsApp or email for matters related to the competition. Please ensure your contact details are accurate and up to date. Communication will be limited to essential updates or important notices directly related to your entry or the competition process.

Withdrawal of Entry

An entrant may withdraw any submitted photo and delete the associated personal data by emailing Villa’s Information Officer at [email protected] before the close of the relevant submission period. Once withdrawn, the photo will be removed from the competition and any public voting pages, and you will receive confirmation of deletion. Photos may not be withdrawn or data deleted after the submission deadline for that round.

Assistance: If you encounter any difficulties or have questions, feel free to send an email to Larissa at [email protected].

4. Judging Criteria and Voting Process

The selection of winners will be determined through a combined process of public voting and internal review, as outlined below:

After submissions close, Villa will shortlist entries for the public voting phase. Not all entries will be published on the competition voting platform—finalists will be selected at Villa’s sole discretion.

A two-week voting period will follow, during which the shortlisted entries will appear on the Villa competition landing page. Members of the public can vote for exactly three entries, and are permitted to submit their vote once only. Participants are encouraged to share the voting page to gather support.

Villa will select the category winners from the top three entries with the highest number of votes. The ultimate winners from each category will also go through a similar process of public voting combined with an internal review by Villa, where Villa retains the discretion to make the final decision. In the event of a tie or close scores, the internal judging panel will determine the final outcome. All decisions are final and not subject to appeal.

Villa will judge based on the following criteria, and voters will be encouraged and reminded to consider these when voting:

  • Storytelling and Impact: The ability of the image to convey a compelling narrative or evoke emotion.
  • Relevance to Category: How well the photo aligns with the specified theme.
  • Creativity and Originality: The uniqueness and inventiveness of the composition.
  • Technical Quality: Assessment of focus, lighting, and composition.
  • Aesthetic Appeal: Overall visual attractiveness and artistic value.

5. Prizes

Category Prizes

In each of the 3 rounds of the competition, five category winners will be selected — one per category. Each category winner will walk away with 40 litres of InterLock®.

Agent Bonus Prize

If you are a crop advisor or agrochemical agent and have referred or encouraged growers to enter the competition, you may qualify for a bonus prize. When a grower enters, they will have the option to list your name on the entry form as the person who referred them.

If a grower who listed your name wins in their category, you will receive a bonus of 20 litres of InterLock® per winning grower. For example, if two of your referred growers each win a category in the same round, you will receive a total of 40 litres of InterLock®.

Please note: Only one agent can be credited per entry, and prizes are awarded per round.

The award of the Agent Bonus Prize is at the sole discretion of Villa, Villa reserves the right to withhold or revoke the prize, if in its judgement the outcome is not appropriate or does no meet the intent of the competition or the spirit of the competition.

Ultimate Prizes

Upon the conclusion of all three competition rounds, three overall winners will be announced. These may include, but are not limited to:

  • Ultimate Prize 1: A METOS weather station (approx. value: R60,000).
  • Ultimate Prize 2: A Nightvision FLIR Camera Scout 11 640×180 (approx. value: R30,000).
  • Ultimate Prize 3: A DJI Flip drone or equivalent (approx. value: R15,000).

Please note that the exact specifications, models, and availability of the prizes are subject to change. The Organizer reserves the right to substitute any prize with another prize of equal or greater value if the original prize becomes unavailable.

Non-Transferable: Prizes are non-transferable and cannot be exchanged for cash or any other alternative.

Winner Notification: Winners will be notified via the contact details provided in their submission forms. Villa will make up to 10 attempts to notify each winner via the contact details provided, over a period of 1 month following the winner announcement. If a winner fails to respond or claim within this timeframe, their prize may be forfeited and awarded to an alternate finalist at Villa’s discretion.

Delivery or Collection: The method of prize distribution (delivery or collection) will be determined based on the nature of the prize and the winner’s location.

  • Delivery: If delivery is feasible, prizes will be couriered to the winner’s provided address. The promoter will coordinate with the winner to arrange a suitable delivery time.
  • Collection: In cases where delivery is not practical due to distance, size, or other logistical constraints, winners may be required to collect their prizes from a designated location. The promoter will communicate the collection details to the winner.
