Growers face increasing climate uncertainty, unpredictable weather patterns, rising disease pressure and tighter operational windows, making informed decision-making more critical than ever. Traditional weather platforms often fail to reflect the unique conditions experienced on individual farms.
The Villa Regional Weather Reports were developed to solve this challenge. Using real-time, ground-level data from strategically selected on-farm weather stations across 46 regions in South Africa, the reports provide hyper-localised weekly forecasts and practical insights such as spray windows and evapotranspiration (ETO) rates. This “ground-truth” approach ensures a level of accuracy and relevance that traditional weather platforms, often reliant on satellite data, cannot match.
The result is smarter, more proactive farming. Over time, the reports help growers build a climate history of their own farms, creating valuable data that is as unique as their operation and enabling better long-term planning and resource management.
USING THE REPORT
WEATHER FORECAST PARAMETERS
- Regional forecast based on hyper-localised weather forecasts from actual weather stations
- Cumulative daily and weekly rainfall
- Daily ETOs for optimal irrigation
- Effective spray windows for more effective use of crop protection products
- Improve risk identification
- Optimize on-farm planning and operations
HINDSIGHT ANALYSIS PARAMETERS
- Track cumulative rainfall
- Track cumulative GDD (Growing Degree Days) & chill units
- Monitor extreme weather patterns
- Compare current conditions to previous years
- Place current conditions in historical context e.g., 3-yr average / 5-yr avg.
